Eat, Play, Sleep ...

No ... you read it right ~ Eat, Play, Sleep
No no ... its not another sequel from the Elizabeth Gilbert 'Eat, Pray, Love' ~ hehe
Its my children ... their main activities during last school hols.
Rainy season kept them mostly indoor, thus .... Eat, Play, Sleep !!!
Pray of course, is not an option in this household ... its a MUST aka WAJIB!!!
Love ... its everywhere when all the kids were home.
I'm blessed!!
And ... food is a plenty!! Whenever one or two or all of them went out,
they'll be bringing back ~ FOODS ~ all types & a plenty too.
And BREAD being in the top list!!
There's sandwich bread, sweet buns, kaya buns, red-bean buns, 'roti bata' (their dad's fav), burger/hotdog buns ... whatever breads they fancy!!
Sometimes ... double of each because everybody buying without enquiring 'the homemaker' aka me, 1st!!
So ... uneaten breads, on rainy days ~ TST (tahu sama tahu)
I can't stand seeing those breads go stale, mouldy & finally being thrown out!
(think of those starving ... not enough food etc while we waste & waste ... MEMBAZIR!!)
So, I ...
cut  breads (that's nearing expiry dates) into smaller shapes,
put them on big tray (laced with paper to absorb moisture faster),
let them dry in open space, naturally for 3 - 4 days (flipping over the following day, this to equally dry both sides)
On the 4th day, they should be dry enough ...
toast them in the oven (like baking biscuits)
Turning over the other side, halfway thro (so that they brown evenly both sides)
Take out & cool completely on baking tray b4 storing!!
Walla ... homemade dry crispy bread **

Yummy good to dip into hot coffee or tea ~ on rainy days or early mornings.

WASTE NOT!!

(p.s. I got this from a bakery nearby, actually I asked her how. She told me, if we toast the breads in the oven immediately after cutting, without drying them outside 1st, they'll not be crispy but a bit chewy inside & not last long!!)

Another batch in drying prosess
