However, that evening ... while she was about to cross the complex busy entrance road ... which was smack infront of the complex exit-door ... Seeing a car was approaching quite fast, thus she stalled ... to let it pass. Suddenly, out of nowhere, one cute little chinese girl, maybe about 3 or 4 ... gleefully running stray from her parents or maid, whatever ... straight into the oncoming car! For sure the driver won't be able to see the little girl until its too late ... Unthinkingly, the lady crossed the street just infront of the little girl ... thingking, I'm bigger, taller ... sure the driver can see one! (Huhu ... ) And out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a young man, scooping the girl into his hand ... also in-time ... as the car screeched to a halting stop ... in-time to avoid knocking the crazy lady!
"Woi! Buta ka!! (Are you blind!) Gila ka! (Crazy) Crossing street like that! Aiiyaa!! ... bla bla bla"
... are all what the lady can hear as she stood there, transfixed with shocked and bliss that the little cute girl is ok! Alhamdulillah! She whispered slowly to herself and set aside to give way to the still angry and mumbling driver.
Still shaking, slowly she walked away towards her car ... as she witnessed the little girl parents and fellow shoppers, all cheering, congratulating, thanking and praising the young man for his heroic act.
She felt so sad and frustrated because the young man get all the credits for saving the little girl. She sat inside her car, sulking and pondering over the incident ... feeling remorse and angry at the same time ... until a light tap on her car window bring her to her senses!
"Akak! (Sis), thank you for saving the girl's life. I'm sorry to get the credit gor your unselfish act but I know Allah will rewards you for your sincere deed. InsyaAllah! Assalamualaikum ...."
That nite, the lady pondered over what the young man said to her. Yes! He did made her day ... but most of all, his word about 'sincere' lashed at her like a whip! It hit her hard ... Yup! She wasn't that sincere after all in saving that girl's life (tho' she thought she was ... at first) ... for she was looking for people praises after that!! For she was sad and angry that the young man got the credit instead of her ... MasyaAllah! That young man gesture had indeed bring her to her senses ... Astagfirullahhalazim! ... Ya Allah! Forgive me ... thankyou for guiding me ...
That lady was me ... and the incident really happened, circa early 90's in Kuantan, Pahang!!
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said this once:
"Allah will help a person as long as he helps his brother." (Muslim)
Treat everyone with kindness, even those who are rude to you ...
not because they are nice, but because you are!
p.s. Thank you young man, wherever you are ... May Allah Bless you always ...
